How Scotty’s journey started!

Scotty’s faith has always been important to him but for years he was not making the right decisions in life. The Lord spoke to him by having something happen to him in June 2017. He made a terrible decision in his life and it cost him something that was very dear to him. He decided to ask God to forgive him for all his sins and work in his life. He went back to his old church and is now a regular attender. In August 2017 he got baptized in front of his whole church family along with his family and friends. Scotty says “over this short time I have watched God work in my life and I am actually glad that that one incident in June 2017 happen to me because I would never know how bad the decisions I was making in life were affecting me and other people that I care about. I just want to thank my whole church family at New Life Church Southwest in Bakersfield California for accepting me with open arms. I have already made so many friends that I couldn’t imagine going back to my old ways. In this section of my website you will be able to experience what goes on in my journey of being a full-time believer. Thank you all for your support and God Bless”! About Scotty’s Church

New Life Church is located in Bakersfield, CA. James and Lydia Ranger have been the Lead Pastors for the past 30 years and have grown the church from 45 members to over 6500 active members. We are a “Recovery Church,” meaning that we believe every person who comes to New Life, no matter where they are in their faith journey, will be able to find hope, healing, and a place of belonging at New Life. There are no perfect people at New Life, but a lot of people who are recovering from their imperfection.

Meet Our Lead Pastors James & Lydia Ranger

James & Lydia Ranger are the Lead Pastors of New Life Church. They came to Bakersfield in 1988 as Lead Pastors with a passion to reach Kern County. New Life was an envisioned group of 45 people and has rapidly grown to become a racially, ethnically & socio-economically diverse community of faith. New Life is known as a safe place to be restored through the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.

James gives his life to teaching about how following Jesus Christ leads us to a life of prayer, restoration and reinvesting the gifts God has so graciously given each of us! He is passionate about equipping leaders around him to advance the kingdom & developing the local church.

Lydia is a wife, daughter, mom, friend, and nurturer in every way. She shares her life song through music & teachings that inspire people to draw close to their Creator.

James & Lydia can often be found sharing their 33 years of marital experiences with other couples, leading worship together or simply just being in community with others on their journey to becoming followers of Jesus Christ. They have 2 grown sons, 2 daughter-in-laws and 6 grandchildren.
